ESET Secures Record 12th "Advanced+" Award in Proactive test from AV-Comparatives

av_comp_logoESET has secured its 12th "Advanced+" rating in proactive/retrospective testing from AV-Comparatives, an independent research organization.

The latest test measured proactive on-demand detection capabilities of 16 antivirus products.

ESET's closest competitor has six (6) Advanced+ awards.

AV-Comparatives provides a three-level ranking system of Standard, Advanced and Advanced+ award. To receive an "Advanced+" rating, a product must be rated with not only an excellent proactive detection rate, but also a low false positive rate.

The retrospective test is performed using passive scanning and demonstrates the ability of the products under test to detect new malware proactively, without being executed.

"ESET continues to be the only vendor tested by AV-Comparatives that has always received the highest ranking (Advanced+) in proactive detection tests," said Andreas Clementi, founder and chief researcher for AV-Comparatives. "As its impressive testing record indicates, ESET has always understood the importance of strong heuristics in fighting malware."

ESET Launches Beta Program for ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac OS X

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac OS X utilizes the same trusted ThreatSense® technology that powers ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Windows. Proactive heuristic technology detects and stops new malware and variants without leaving your Mac vulnerable for hours and days as signature updates are released.

The growing popularity of Mac computers has made the Mac OS X platform a prime target for malware writers. Not only are these computers susceptible to Mac OS X-specific malware, they can also carry Windows or Linux malware through file sharing and email attachments. ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac OS X is a fast and effective solution to both problems.

Key features include:

  • Detects and cleans Mac infections plus files carrying Windows and Linux malware
  • Compact updates keep Macs protected without slowdown
  • Removable media scanning allows safe file sharing
  • Smart and customizable GUI automatically disables alerts when running full screen applications (e.g. games, videos, presentations)
  • Logs, charts and statistics provide at-a-glance summary of security status
  • Supports 32-bit Intel x86 architecture running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or later

NOTE: The beta test version is a precursor of the final product. Full functionality and documentation have not yet been implemented. Some system instability may occur; ESET recommends experienced users install NOD32 Antivirus for Mac OS X only on machines that do not perform critical tasks.

Full support for Windows 7
ESET has announced full support for the Microsoft® Windows 7® operating system. The complete line of ESET products - ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 and ESET Smart Security 4 (home and business editions), ESET Remote Administrator 3, SysInspector and ESET Online Scanner now fully support Microsoft's new operating system.

According to Richard Marko, Chief Technology Officer at ESET, the changes that needed to be made in the products were minor and concerned mainly those features that are closely linked with the core of the operating system, namely ESET's Self-defense and Anti-stealth technologies. Self-defense is a function that prevents computer infiltrations from deactivating or negatively affecting the computer's security status. Anti-stealth is advanced technology that ESET has developed against rootkits.

In order to ensure full compatibility with Windows 7, ESET recommends that its customers download the newest installation packages for ESET Smart Security 4 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus, as well as ESET Remote Administrator 3 for business users. After downloading the above-mentioned products they can simply be installed over the top of the current installation.

ESET named in Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection by Gartner

ESET has been included in leading analyst firm Gartner’s May 2009 ‘Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms’, which addresses security technologies for the protection of corporate network endpoints for the SMB and large enterprise market.

According to Gartner, "Malware is increasingly Web-based (that is, it uses the Web as a distribution method and a command-and-control channel) and multistage — meaning there are multiple components that can be installed after the initial infection, depending on the motivation of the attacker and the victim's profile. In addition, the exploits of socially engineered trojans, which trick end users into downloading and executing malicious files, are on the rise and will continue to cause havoc in 2009 and beyond.”

ESET´s vision is to continue with optimization of its heuristic capabilities and key features to provide the most comprehensive security solution for SMBs. “ESET believes that SMBs need the most effective, easy-to-use antimalware solution combined with antispams and personal firewalls. According to us, our presence in Gartner’s report is affected by increased worldwide interest in our products,” said Richard Marko, ESET’s Chief Technology Officer.
